Kendrick Lamar is just a very interesting and insightful human. He is very pure and organic with his words and messages and how he tries to get those messages across. In this discussion with Rick Rubin, they speak on many topics, mainly focused around his inspiration and processes as an artist and his outlooks on certain things. Kendrick speaks on searching for the things that used to trigger his inspiration is a whole process. Meaning, he has had certain events in his life that have triggered inspirations big or small. He doesn’t write all of them down, yet they come back around to him, or he searches out for them and this helps his process.
I touched on Kendrick being pure, and a huge player in that is he isn’t making music for his audience, he is turning his raw emotion into art and it helps the audience create a connection with him in a since and how they can feel how he perceives or feels something.
Kendrick spoke on how he was raised, his mother a dreamer, and father a realist and how the 50/50 balance helped make him who he is today.
K-Dot had a really cool thought about children. He said that he is inspired by them because they see the world at a surface level and they are not engrained into the problems we face. The blissful ignorance that they have fills him with optimism and motivation.
