“If God got us then we gon’ be alright”

We spoke about this in class. We discussed as to why the Black culture is strongly centered around their faith. Blacks during slavery had limited literacy, had no freedoms, and their owners didn’t give a shit about their lives and just saw them as property. BUT!, they had God, they had their Christian faith to bank on. They had something to look forward to and someone to call on. It was their chance to come together and practice their faith to create a strong bond between them.

What I have never understood and still don’t and it irks me every time I hear of it.

These slave owners were also Christian, PRACTICING A FAITH THAT HAS A GOLDEN RULE (commandment) OF LOVING THY NEIGHBOR. It just pisses me off to think that they had all of these brothers in Christ slaving away in the fields and lynching them. The only thing that ever helps me get over this in some type of way is that every slave owner is most probably rotting in Hell.

We have come a far way since, but we are still nowhere close to where we need to be when it comes to equality.
