This post is going to be responding and elaborating on something we covered briefly in class. We were discussing institutional racism, or racism that’s built into the rules and hierarchies of institutions like colleges or professions. I want to go out on a limb and say that’s behind us.. Now don’t freak out, obviously it exists in remains somewhere! We still have more minority janitors at the University and we generally see few minority professors or leaders on campus, I know that. But I think we’ve exhausted our efforts in institutional racism. What I mean is this, we’ve made everything legally equal, haven’t we? A black child (legally) has the same opportunities as a white, a black man (legally) has the same opportunity of being hired as a white man. People across the nation have black bosses and leaders. But we still have racism, CLEARLY, so what gives?

It’s social.
