When you view the photo above, you may think that this is an African American woman. However, this woman is actually Caucasian.

This woman’s name is Rachel Dolezal. She is a white woman that lied and said that she was black. She was president at her local NAACP chapter and attended Howard University. She addressed issues within the black community, and she was an activist for the black community.

Rachael seem like a great leader for the black community, so why were people so upset with her for “being black”?

Well, Racheal spoke to audiences which included young black individuals. She would tell them that she knows their struggle and she can relate to the challenges that they are faced with. This upset many African Americans because they felt like she would never know the struggle that African Americans face. Just because she passed as being black, doesn’t mean that she understands the obstacles that black people must overcome.

Or does it?

If this woman went years as being “black”, wouldn’t that mean that she has been faced with at least one situation in which she was inferior to a person of the white race?
