“I'm not a politician, I'm not 'bout a religion
I'm a Israelite, don't call me Black no mo'
That word is only a color, it ain't facts no mo'”
YAH., an underrated song on the album, but one of my personal favorites. Kung-Fu Kenny is telling the people to stop associating him with the stereotypical Black. It does not fit him nor does he follow those customs in any way. Kendrick has been known to speak out against his oppressor. Here he is saying calling someone Black to define someone does not match what they are really about.
The same can be said for many other African-Americans. Black is only a label, a blanket statement; it is only a stereotype used to create a divide between whites.
The same goes for me when it comes to being “White”. Through the scope of society’s eye, I am white, although I do not practice WASP practices and traditions, I am white. Even though I am Cajun and from Lafayette, I am blanketed with being white because of my skin tone. That’s the point that Kendrick is trying to get across here, he is not going to let society blanket him with being just “black” because of his skin tone.
