Malcom X and Me

While discussing the Ballot and the Bullet in class, it seems as though many ideas called out to me. First thought was, I have never seen the Malcolm X movie. This was shocking because the few clips we watched were astounding to me. Blacks being organized, and afraid was powerful. If I lived in that time period I believe I would have aligned with Malcolm X’s teachings. Something in me tells me to fight back. Standing up for what you believe in and showing that you are as civilized and educated and willing to fight for what should be yours is a big deal. I respect Dr. King and his ideals, and I am happy that many followed him. His principles and teachings brought us this far. However, it is hard for me to say that i would have been down for those principals and ideas. It would have been so hard to fight back. This goes back to Black children being taught to work twice as hard, be twice as smart. Blacks have been taught to be the better of the race and in some areas that makes our race look like the weaker race. For example, Blacks can not just act out when being pulled over. If any form of hostility is showed, you could end up dead. This is the direct result of the Civil Rights Era. Civil Rights Era taught Blacks to be meek and mild, no matter the disrespect.
